MOVIESinMO REVIEW
It’s that time of the year when we start seeing an influx of Christmas themed movies. Usually, those types of films are found on the Lifetime channel or reserved for a special night on one of the primary network stations like CBS of NBC. Every now and again a holiday movie is so unique, it deserves to be on the big screen. Last Christmas is not that movie. It is nowhere near that movie. For the most part Last Christmas is below the standard of what we have come to expect. As the years have progressed, so should the materials used in a Christmas film. I know there’s only so much a movie can do with a holiday theme and still be original, but this film didn’t even try. Ninety percent of this movie is rehashed ideas from other holiday films. It’s only until the last twenty minutes of the feature that this movie decided to act like a theatrical release. All of a sudden the story got better. The purpose of everything that was happening made sense, and it had heart. It was the perfect film for about fifteen minutes. If they hadn’t have used the budget on that George Michael soundtrack, they could have paid better writers and got a better director and would have made a better movie overall. Last Christmas is not a bad movie, it’s a boring movie with an M. Night Shyamalan type ending. If you must see it, rent it.
