WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE HOPE TO DO
WE ARE AFRICAN-AMERICANS THAT LOVE MOVIES
There’s a severe shortage of African-American movie reviewers in this country according to recent polls (and common sense). We are tired of the reviews that say how great a film is just because it’s in another language, or how “accurately” a movie tells a made-up story that’s based on a book. And don’t forget about movies that have a mainly Black cast – how do those “other” reviewers know what people of color want or like? Well, we are here to change all that.
WE ARE NOT WRITERS, DIRECTORS, PRODUCERS, ETC.
Another reason to trust our reviews is because of what we are not. We are not Hollywood. We don’t care about how good the costume design is or if whatever the characters have was available in the time they’re trying to represent. It just needs to be believable and entertaining.
WE GIVE HONEST REAL REVIEWS FROM A REGULAR MOVIE GOERS PERSPECTIVE
Since we don’t work for a movie company, we can tell you exactly what we think of any title we review. That also means we can listen to your requests and comments and explain or re-explain any one of our reviews you don’t understand or don’t agree with. So please know that these reviews are our opinions, but if you can prove we were wrong or too harsh in our review, we will retract and rewrite it, apologize for the review and give the member that told us how wrong we were full credit for putting us in our place.
WE ARE FROM AND REPRESENT THE MIDWEST (MISSOURI)
We are from, Missouri – Florissant, St. Louis, and Arnold and the people in the mid-west are like no one else in the country. Our reviews reflect mid-western thoughts and attitudes, and since the Midwest has the highest concentration of Black people, our reviews will rarely mirror reviews from the east or west coast.
WE REVIEW MOVIES IN THE THEATER AND HOME MEDIA (DVD/BLU-RAY/DIGITAL)
At this point, we want to keep it somewhat simple. So, for now, we only review movies in the theater and on DVD/Blu-Ray and digital, of course. In the future, we will talk about, and rate games, tv shows, and any other media that Black people are willing to spend their hard-earned money.
WE ALSO HAVE A SECTION CALLED “RIP-OFFS.” THESE ARE COPY-CAT TITLES THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A NATIONAL OR WORLDWIDE RELEASE.
This is an experimental section. Rip-Offs are those titles that try and capitalize off the popularity of a major theatrical release. For example, when Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) was in the theaters, a movie called Legend Of Kung-Fu Rabbit (2011) was released straight to video, and it was horrible. Another example would be Frozen (2013). The straight to video copy was The Snow Queen, another terrible rip-off. For those that think they know, we know The Snow Queen is based on the story/book by Hans Christian Andersen, while Frozen is loosely based. The problem here is the company that released The Snow Queen waited until Frozen was released to gain a more substantial profit.
WE WILL PERFORM UPDATES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE
Occasionally we will re-review a title to see if it’s still as good today as when it was released. Because let’s be honest, there are tons of movies we liked as kids, but when we see them now, THEY SUCK. We don’t mean it’s still a good movie for a child, we mean, if we were kids today and saw that movie, it would still suck. Finally, since we are a new company, we are open to reviewing titles requested by you. That way, you don’t waste your time watching what might be a horrible movie and we get one more title to add to our raster.
