MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This movie teaches us not to volunteer too much information about ourselves to people we don’t know. In A SIMPLE FAVOR, every character is over the top. Emily is the most nieve, nice, and energetic person you will ever see in the twenty-first century and her new friend Stephanie is the complete opposite. Whereas Emily’s husband is deceased (fully explained), Stephanie’s husband is a writer with one book under his name. Every parent at the school their kids go to all have one-dimensional characteristic. Even law enforcement is reduced to characters of themselves. As simple as everyone in this film is, the story becomes very convoluted and interestingly confusing. At the start of the movie, we are introduced to Emily, a vlogger with plenty of helpful tips for moms. This is when she tells her fanbase her friend Stephanie has been missing for five days. She continues to tell the story of her friend’s disappearance as we learn about her aggressively active life and how the other parents feel about her “can do” attitude. After seeing how Emily acts and reacts around the children, we then see Stephanie for the first time. Her introduction is nothing short of a Hollywood starlets presentation. She is seen via the slow-mo camera getting out of her car and has all the elegance of a princess. Then she starts speaking, and you realize how much of a bitch she is. The other moms knew all this, but apparently, Emily had never met her, and regardless of Stephanies extreme “I don’t give a f***” attitude, Emily is drawn to her, and they become friends. Emily begs Stephanie to let their sons have a playdate and Stephanie regretfully agrees. Once they all get to Stephanie’s home, more of Steph’s extreme personality come out. They begin drinking and sharing secrets. Shortly after that, Stephanie’s husband comes home, and Emily has to uncomfortably deal with some major PDA until the husband walks away. As we see this strange friendship unfold, Emily is still telling the story and continues to do so until we get to the “my friend has been missing for five days” point. Now that we are all caught up, everything from this point on is present day, and we continue to enjoy this crazy ride. A Simple Favor is a wild dark comedy with plot twists and turns that contained plot twists and turns. Just when you think you know what’s going on, you find out you were wrong, but you were also right. I know, it sounds confusing, but it makes a lot of sense in this movie. Overall, A Simple Favor is everything but simple. It’s a twisted, intriguing, dark comedy with an unpredictable ending that makes you question how well you really know the people you associate with.
