Pirates of Treasure Island is ostensibly the Asylum’s answer to 2006’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, but it’s basically just a (loose) adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island. Having said that, this movie is complete madness. The Asylum regular Lance Henriksen pops up again as Long John Silver – a character he gives not one, not two, but three different accents – the foil to tavern owner Jim Hawkins, as the two race to locate a buried treasure. This is definitely one of the more violent takes on Treasure Island, and it’s probably the only one that, like seemingly all Asylum releases, features giant insects.
