WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Lethal, professional hitwoman Mary (Taraji P. Henson) works for the most notorious crime family in town, headed by Benny (Danny Glover). When Mary shoots a protected mobster in order to save a young boy, she must take on a rogues’ gallery of crime figures, from the Russian Mafia to those closest to her, including her former lover. Armed with her wits – and a closet full of guns – Mary must do whatever it takes to be the last woman standing in this energetic and explosive action thriller.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW
Taraji P. Henson is a beautiful actress, but she lacks depth. I watch Empire faithfully, and as Cookie, she’s excellent. What I didn’t want the watch was Cookie as a hit-woman. For an hour and a half, I watched Ms. Henson play a badass, very successful and well-known assassin with strong mothering instinct. While this movie does have some action scattered throughout and the ending gives us closure, it’s very unbalanced, somewhat dull, and thin on plot. It’s also hard to tell the difference between Mary, the killer, and Cookie, the record executive. They’re both quick-tempered. Both of them love what they do. They have insane emotional issues when it comes to kids. Lastly, they both look and dress like their going to a fashion show. Proud Mary could have been a good movie, but it was missing too much something and not enough of something else. Maybe if it was rated PG-13 instead of rated R, it could have made money off of the younger “Empire” fanbase.
