MOVIESinMO REVIEW
They have finally brought Thor into the 21st century. They updated his costume, changed his hair and gave him a likable personality. Thor: Ragnarok is a 100 percent improvement over the other 2 films. Even his enemies have a certain charm about them. True Thor fans might not like it because it is a huge departure from classic Thor. That group of fans can watch the first two movies and be happy. Ragnarok is for those of us wanting to be entertained in a more modern way. Right from the beginning, Thor is chained up and shows us his “Earth” side. He’s calm, he jokes, and he kicks but, of course. A big part of the story is Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death, the daughter of Odin, and Thor’s sister. As for the comic book geeks, yes, I know it’s different. In the movie, Hela was Odin’s right hand as she helped him conquer many lands until he had a change of heart and imprisoned her. The wrath she spreads once she is resurrected is immense. She is so much more powerful than Thor, which is what makes his defeat by her imminent. Now we get more changes in Thor as he (and Loki) are on the run. Thor gets captured, he gets a haircut, and he’s forced to fight. For those that follow the comic books, you get the only taste of Planet Hulk you are ever going to see on the big screen. This, of course, is where Thor is held captive and where he has his fight against the Hulk. This battle, along with many others, are both exciting and comedically entertaining. All through the film, we are introduced or reintroduced to Loki, Dr. Strange, the Grandmaster, a Valkyrie, Korg and so many others that help move the story along. These characters, along with so many more, actually play important roles in the advancement of the story. Huge battle scenes happen throughout the movie as the final fight leaves us with a lot of uncertainty regarding the future and existence of Asgard.
